If SRT can make a Jeep corner decently , the Challenger will too.

Or, you all could chill and realize the Challenger was never built to corner like a Lotus, but rather go very fast in a straight line.

Grand Tourer, not track-attacker.

Have you sat in/driven a Challenger?

For all the shit the Camaro takes for feeling heavy, the Challenger is that enormous. I'm sure it will handle fine, but honestly if I wanted a track car I'd probably rather have the Cherokee SRT8...

Well obviously it can take corners, this is 2014 for christ's sake. But in comparison to any of the other big 3 flagships does it even come close? Doubtful. Which is perfectly fine, but at its price point and power level, I'd much rather buy a GT500 or ZL1 and be rip both a quick 1/4 and lap time.

Probably, just not as well as the Boss or Z/28.

I have sat in a Challenger. I actually enjoyed how big it was. Big car with a big motor for a big man. It's the roomiest coupe I've ever sat in.

Dodge never marketed the Challenger as a track toy. Hell most of their commercials consist of it driving fast in a straight line or doing burnouts or both. That's why I don't think of it needed to handle supremely well.

Also, the Camaro and Mustang were bred from the same idea the Challenger and Charger were. But, they have since evolved into something more than a V8 on rails.

Props to Dodge for actually making a GT500/ZL1 fighter though. Those three cars alone have more 'Merica in them than Lincoln's beard.

The Grand Cherokee corners decently for a Jeep and it has the benefit of AWD. This will not corner any better than the current SRT challenger.

That and the one thats been spotted in the wild was sporting 275s in the rear... traction will be laughable but thats not necessarily a bad thing

But, the Challenger has usable rear seats and a bloody massive trunk. Two things I know for a fact the Camaro doesn't have, and I'm pretty sure the Mustang doesn't either.

The Challenger has a different mission from the other two, and people who want what the Challenger offers buy the Challenger. People who want what the other offer buy those. I for one am in the Challenger party.

I'm in love with the Hellcat rigjt now but I'd still even take a Shaker or Scat Pack. I'm not too crazy about the current car but the refresh looks so sexy and the interior is a massive improvement. I'd really like to replace the Dart with a Shaker, preferably in this blue. I also like the grille of the V6 cars better than the blacked out on on the 8s.

Sometimes you want a chateaubriand with bearnaise sauce and other times life calls for a bacon cheeseburger. It will take corners but probably not remarkably well. That's not the point, and to me it seems like Dodge made that abundantly clear.

And let's be clear. Any car is capable of cornering better/faster than you would ever dare to. That's why we have race car drivers.

Look at what they did with the Neon. They gave the Neon 245 lb-ft of torque, and instead of making what you'd think would result: a car that would accelerate very, very quickly at an unpredictable angle into a lamppost, they instead made a new god for the autocross pantheon.

Which is perfectly fine, but I think its a little bit disappointing to see that they couldn't make a challenger that is a corner carver. With all the technology we have now, they can't keep playing the same game and compete in sales against the other two.

I like the Challenger too, but I don't think everyone is just hating on it ro hate on it. I think people are just disappointed that they're going to sell it for ZL1 price, and have nowhere near the capability. Whereas a little more R&D could've made something that actually CONVERTED people looking at a ZL1.

It also weighs a lot less, and has about a third the amount of torque. FWD be damned, that's a bit of a difference.

wow, color me impressed! I'm basing my conclusion on the fact that I have personally seen 662hp GT500s have issues with traction on 285s. And my car with "only" 520whp can easily break traction on 325s.

I wonder if the traction control is helping handle torque down low. It will be interesting to see what an "average joe" can get out of one of these cars.

Lol really? I don't even like Cobalts, but there is a reason why there are so many of them still around and sadly, not the case for SRT-4s. All you have to do to outrun an SRT-4 is make him shift into 3rd.

Quick? Yes. Reliable? Not so much. Better on a road course? Definitely not. Better overall car? Debatable, but the SS has a much nicer interior and creature comforts.

The big problem with the SRT is the fact that they were bought by 20 year olds, not 25 year olds like the SS, so they were promptly totalled. You're right that it's hard to see an SRT anymore, but once you look at a junkyard, you'll see that 95% of them are there because the dumbass drivers wrecked.

Which ends up being the case for any decently quick FWD car sadly. I remember seeing SVT Foci being totalled. And for christ's sake they only have 200hp.

I am sure this thing will do a fantastic job of terrifying babies and melting tires. My only problem is it makes it seem like Dodge is running out of ideas. They have taken an ancient platform and the best they can come up with is more horsepower. Any manufacturer could do the same. Even though it's the fastest the Challenger lives at the bottom of my muscle car wish list.

I'd rather have a Mustang GT/BOSS 302/GT500 or a Z28/ZL1. In my experience the previous Challengers were not that fun to drive and it had nothing to do with lack of power. This effort just seems a little desperate.
